Rematriation: A Return of the Sacred to the Mother

This talk highlighted traditional Haudenosaunee Confederacy cultural teachings and values that can be applied in our daily lives. The Haudenosaunee Confederacy is located in the lands commonly referred to as New York State.

Michelle Schenandoah is a writer, speaker, thought leader, and TRADITIONAL member of the OneidA Nation Wolf Clan of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy.

This event featured 90 minutes of discussion and story-sharing from Michelle Schenandoah, followed by 30 minutes of Q&A.

We’ll cover topics such as:

  • What “Rematriation” means, and how it is being cultivated in Michelle’s work with her community.

  • A Sisterhood of Indigenous women and their actions to support their people's processes of Rematriation and inter-generational community healing.

  • The importance of restoring women’s relationship with the earth, and our collective relationships as a whole

  • How the Haudenosaunee Confederacy works as the oldest living participatory democracy on earth (and how it inspired America’s forefathers)

  • How matrilineal culture works (and how it inspired suffragettes like Matilda Joslyn Gage, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott)

  • How non-native can support Indigenous peoples and their communities.
